Occurrence of introduced species of the genus Cercyon (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) in the Neotropical Region Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent.
Fikácek,Martin.
The occurrence of the species of the genus Cercyon Leach introduced to the Neotropical Region is reviewed. Two species are recorded for the first time from the Neotropics: Cercyon (Paracercyon) laminatus Sharp from Chile, and C. (s.str.) haemorrhoidalis Fabricius from Argentina. Cercyon panamensis Hansen is synonymized with C. (s.str.) nigriceps (Marsham); the latter species is recorded for the first time from Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Panama, Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago, additional data are provided on its occurrence in Jamaica. Cercyon depressus subsp. uruguayanus Knisch is synonymized with C. (s.str.) depressus Stephens and its lectotype is designed; the latter species is recorded for the first time from Chile. Additional records of...

On the identities of Rhinoleucophenga pallida Hendel and Rhinoleucophenga obesa (Loew) (Diptera, Drosophilidae), with description of a new sibling species from Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Vilela,Carlos R.; Bächli,Gerhard.
Abstract Rhinoleucophenga pallidaHendel, 1917 (type species of the genus) is redescribed based on its female holotype and a male from a nearby locality, and Rhinoleucophenga obesa (Loew, 1872) on its two syntypes, which are designated as the male lectotype and a female paralectotype. Both are valid species. A proposal is made to establish the genus Pseudophortica Sturtevant, 1918 (type species R. obesa), a junior synonym of Rhinoleucophenga, to subgenus rank and include all species of Rhinoleucophenga described or redescribed from males except R. pallida, which is unique in having a remarkable pedunculate surstylus, among other differences. The North American R. obesa is compared to its closest sibling, the South American species Rhinoleucophenga gigantea...

On the identity of Porcellana paivacarvalhoi Rodrigues da Costa, 1968 (Crustacea: Anomura: Porcellanidae) Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Ferreira,Luciane Augusto de Azevedo; Tavares,Marcos.
Abstract Porcellana paivacarvalhoi Rodrigues da Costa, 1968, described from southeastern Brazil (São Sebastião, São Paulo), is morphologically similar to the eastern Atlantic P. platycheles (Pennant, 1777), and also to the west African P. africana Chace, 1956. The synonymy between P. paivacarvalhoi and P. platycheles was proposed by previous authors without examination of any specimens of P. platycheles, nor did they considered the morphological similarities between P. paivacarvalhoi and P. africana. This synonymy has been implicitly accepted without further analysis. The recent discovery of one male and two females syntypes of P. paivacarvalhoi has prompted new investigations into the status of P. paivacarvalhoi as a junior synonym either of P....

Revision of the South American freshwater fish genus Laemolyta Cope, 1872 (Ostariophysi: Characiformes: Anostomidae) Neotropical Ichthyology
Mautari,Kelly Cristina; Menezes,Naércio Aquino.
The anostomid genus Laemolyta Cope, 1872, is redefined.Various morphological, especially osteological characters in addition to the commonly utilized features of dentition proved useful for its characterization. A taxonomic revision of all species was made using meristics, morphometrics and color pattern. Five species are recognized: Laemolyta fernandezi Myers, 1950, from the río Orinoco (Venezuela) and the sub-basins Tocantins/Araguaia and Xingu, L. orinocensis (Steindachner, 1879), restricted to the río Orinoco, L. garmani (Borodin, 1931) and L. proxima (Garman, 1890), from the Amazon basin with the latter also occurring in the Essequibo River (Guiana), and L. taeniata (Kner, 1859), from the Amazon and Orinoco basins. Laemolyta garmani macra is...

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 12. Types of the Alaudidae Naturalis
Dickinson, E.C.; Dekker, R.W.R.J.; Eck, S.; Somadikarta, S.; Kalyakin, M.; Loskot, V.; Morioka, H.; Violani, C.; Voisin, C..
A list is provided of the 165 names applied to identifiable Asian forms of species of lark (family Alaudidae). This list summarises our collective knowledge on the whereabouts of types for these names; where our information does not include reliable data we provide notes relating to the deficit and to stimulate others to send us additional data or to suggest sources of information. In two appendices we deal with certain old names that we judge to be indeterminate and we designate a lectotype for Eremophila sibirica (Swinhoe, 1871b).

Taxonomic identity of Trochilus verticalis Deppe, 1830 Naturalis
Quaisser, C.; Weller, A.-A..
The type series of Trochilus verticalis Deppe, 1830, deposited in the collections of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (ZMB) and the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (NMW), consists of five specimens of different taxa and one specimen with aberrant characters. However, the original description of verticalis refers to Agyrtria cyanocephala (Lesson, 1829), to which only the two NMW specimens clearly correspond. Therefore NMW 2.670 (male, Perote) is designated as lectotype of Trochilus verticalis Deppe, 1830.
